Discovering Bordeaux

The Wine Museum offers you a walking tour of Bordeaux, followed by a commented tasting. Discover the heart of the city and its main monuments: the Girondins’ column, the Place de la Bourse and its water mirror, the Grand Theatre… Your guide will share with you the 2000 years of Bordeaux’s history.

The visit continues at the Bordeaux Wine and Trade Museum, in the Chartrons district, the stronghold of 18th century merchants: you will be welcomed for a comparative tasting of 3 wines. Discover the different appellations and grape varieties of Bordeaux.

Did you know that?

In the 18th century, the first bottle factory in Bordeaux was built by an Irishman, Pierre Mitchell. He “imported” an English process using coal.
He settled in the Chartrons district, where all the big merchants had their cellars.
He made all sorts of bottles and invented the bordelaise and the jeroboam, which contains 5 litres in Bordeaux whereas it only holds 3 in Champagne or Burgundy.
